1960 Falcon Hot Rod

I purchased my 1960 Falcon from a local estate sale in 1992. I am the 3rd owner. I paid $100.00 for the car, and although weeds had grown as high as the roof, I drove it home! I had all intentions of restoring it to original condition, (from 6 cyl. to paint) until l saw a picture of a friends 1961 Falcon built for racing. That's when the bug hit! I had to have the car, and with a V8! I had done a lot of studying and planning to get the best set up for street/strip for my car. l also decided to use all Falcon parts! l learned that the '63-'64 Falcon front end would bolt right in, with the only exception being the center link. That HAD to be '63. A 1963 Sprint rear-end also bolted right in. I started calling Ford vendors looking for the used parts. I couldn't find anything worth buying! Then I found Rick's Fabulous Falcons and he could get reproduction & NOS for what others wanted for used parts! I placed an order for a complete front end with 5 lug spindles & springs, (and found out later I didn't need the springs!) and I also ordered a complete 8" rear-end, drum to drum, from a '63 Sprint.Next came the cleaning and painting of the undercarriage and motor compartment. Over the next few years I had completely restored the rolling chassis.A lot of planning went into the motor also! I decided to go with a '65 289  with a few modifications. I had the heads gasket matched on the intake side ported and polished on the exhaust side. Had the studs pinned and roller rockers and 1.94 intake 1.60 exhaust valves installed by a friend that worked at Trick Flow. The bottom end is .30 over with a Comp-Cam 280 High Energy Cam and a C4 transmission with a shift kit and a B&M Megashifter. The rear is a 8"posi with 3:55 gears. I used the motor mounts from the '63, and I used a small C4 bell housing from a Mustang II. It was a tight fit, but it went right in without cutting or denting the firewall! After years of planning, working and tinkering in my spare time, it was ready to fire up! She started on the first try, and has been running strong ever since! I also chose a Ford color! 1995 Ford Probe Lazer red! I've put a lot of little extras into my car, to make it race safe and personalized, but as everyone knows, no car is ever completely done! There is always something you can do or add!
